Dad Hack 014: Keep a picture of your kid(s) on your desktop at work

Editor’s Note: The scribes at First Time Father Project will frequently provide ‘Dad Hacks’ as a way to help dads in need go about their every day lives. If you have a hack you currently employ, share it by Contacting Us.

At work, things can get a little hairy. Whether it’s a fire that needs to be put out, or you’re just lacking for motivation, we could all use a bit of focus on most days.

I’ve found that the frequent surprises I get by seeing my two beautiful daughters upon closing certain programs or browser windows help me maintain a level of sanity on otherwise surreal days.

My hack is simple: just keep a nice image of your kid(s) as your desktop background and you’ll be reminded why you’re still at it meeting after meeting, task after task. It’s been refreshing for me to see their faces. I get a little hit of happiness and remember that they’re my reason. It’s much better than a 2 p.m. coffee…

Not a desk jockey? Have a real man’s job and work outside with your hands? Put an image of your spawn on your phone’s background. It’ll serve the same purpose.
